Building Syria's Entrepreneurial Future from the Ground Up
A new report assessing the Syrian ecosystem has released its findings, offering comprehensive findings to inform policy and decision makers.
Developed for the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida) and led by Berytech, in partnership with Startup Syria, the report represents the most all-encompassing analytical study of the Syrian entrepreneurial landscape in 2025.
Diagnosing the startup landscape
Through its network of founders and field volunteers, Startup Syria reached entrepreneurs in underserved areas, ensuring that the voice of the Syrian founder is the primary driver of this study, while also identifying priority urban clusters for development.
Key findings at a glance
- •Digital resilience: The ICT and digital services sector dominates 41.96% of startups, confirming that technology is Syria's gateway to rejoin the global map.
- •Women empowerment: The percentage of female founders reached 34.7%, compared to only 4.4% in 2009.
- •Youth potential: The vast majority of entrepreneurs fall within the 25 to 44 age group, the war generation aspiring to transform challenges into innovative solutions.
- •The funding gap: Access to capital remains the greatest hurdle, with 77.1% of entrepreneurs identifying securing finance as an urgent, unmet need.
The way forward
The report concludes that Syria's entrepreneurial future depends not only on capital but on building trust and cultivating strategic local and global networks. At Startup Syria, we focus on transforming these recommendations into actionable programs, including long-term mentorship, connecting founders with the Syrian diaspora, and activating vital sectors such as AgriTech and renewable energy.
